Obatala forms
us all in our mother’s womb
with his funfun hands.

I’m listening to Lebo M’s rendition of “He Lives in You” on The Mothership as I type this. I’m simply allowing myself to bask in the divinity of womanhood. The moon is waxing in my house, (LEO) I am letting the new downloads flow. It’s Mother’s Day, and I am in gratitude to all mother energy…from the grandmothers to the godmothers…community mothers to foster mothers. I think of mothers to be, and spiritual mothers…mothers of the creative womb as well as divine mothers. The ones we call by name. Onile, the spirit of the Great Mother Earth. Iyaami Osoronga, the divine mothers of the bird, astral travel, and abundance. Oya, the mother of the wind, the marketplace, the cemetery, and the Egungun. Osun, the mother of the river, love, wealth, abundance, and all that makes life worth living. Yemoja, the mother of the Orisa and the keeper of the womb. Nana Buruku, the grandmother of Orisa. Oh yes. Mother’s Day 2022 is heightened.
Obatala hosted Mother’s Day this year, the number vibrating on a 1, the number of new beginnings. In Orisa tradition, it is Obatala, the King of the Orisa who formed all of mankind with his hands. It is believed that it is His hands that form the baby while in the mother’s womb. (Perhaps this may be a reason one of his favorite offerings is boiled egg?)
As we celebrate the divinity of motherhood, lets remember Obatala, the King of the Orisa that assisted every mother while she rested in gestation. Ase!
All the best,
