The original draft of this poem was written on July 28, 2010, and it was revised on 1.9.2024. This was one of many of my original poems that sat in my archive for many years as I tossed and turned in the roads of life, seeking my true path. I found that true path in Ifa/Orisa tradition. In this tradition, the Orisa Ogun is He who owns all roads in life…physical and metaphorical, high and low. This poem is in homage to this essence of The Most High. (Iba Se Olodumare!) It was written at a time when I felt lost in life, then I found my way. Now it is my divine pleasure and duty to encourage and assist you in finding yours. Enjoy the poem!
Am I lost?
The directions printed on the map
are now asking for
the route
that makes sense
the roads of imbalance
that veer to roads of repent
where karma brings recompense
free of projections that she’s a bitch
has anybody seen my way?
The high road you don’t wanna stray?
Ogun. Ogun Onire.
Crossroads multiply as
rearview mirrors shatter
sacred garments replace gowns
that got tattered
healing in places once battered
timing belts break
oils need changing
tires need new rotates
when engines go into overdrive
honey from sacred hives
sweeten the rods we trod
No. Not at all.
I am not lost.
The directions printed on the map
perhaps
has to ask for them
because the path to transend…is narrow.
Empty green sacks
leave no more hash
ironing out crumbled
lost directions in the dash
when smoke clears
and banish fears
new realities rear
their pretty heads
when tails are kept in check
better yet,
revisions of truth
to destructive lies
in the lives
of those
who seek to find
their spirit kind
and got binded
in blind ulterior motive
totaled out and shattered illusions
bring conclusions
to undue trickeries
and cop a compass
keep driving when they call you pompass
as
blessings be reloaded
detoured to destined high roads then
all again is okay.
You were never lost.
His name is Ogun.
Ogun Onire.
